About the Band

Bah & the Humbugs have made new, funny holiday music an annual tradition since 1985. In a congenially irreverent style, the Humbugs poke fun at Santa Claus, snowmen, reindeer, Mrs. Claus, elves, the New Year, and various Christmas scrooges running the gamut from the sublime to the absurd — no one is safe! Beloved figures of folklore, respected political personages, even tasty holiday treats have all been subjected to the Humbugs' satirical wit. With catchy melodies in a variety of styles, Bah & the Humbug put the "X" back in Xmas and keep spirits bright all through the holiday season.

Rick Aster might be known around the world as an author of computer books, but he is actually more likely to be found in the recording studio. His 10 book releases are more than matched by the 30-plus albums, in genres from comedy to heavy metal, that list him as engineer, producer, performer, or writer. The common threads running through his work are spirit and technology, seemingly opposite qualities that he brings together with uncommon ease.

Amy Guskin is a musician, voice artist, and web designer. Married to Humbug founding member Paul Nordquist since 1992, she has collaborated with him on numerous musical efforts including various Gilbert & Sullivan productions, an off-off Broadway show, and the bands Bah & the Humbugs and Left Brain.

Michael Hollinger is a reclusive Philadelphia playwright/composer who only comes out of hiding to record with Bah and the Humbugs. He wrote the Christmas classics "I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus", "Jingle Bell Rock" and "The Nutcracker", but receives no royalties for these compositions, as he is widely believed to be posthumous.

Vance Lehmkuhl has been into Christmas since before Christmas was cool. What? It's not cool? OK, well, how about lucid dreaming? That's really cool. And Vance has been doing that since before it was even possible. Also, Vance is a founding member of Bah & the Humbugs, and the author of The Joy of Soy, the first book, magazine or other media product to use the phrase "The Joy of Soy."

Songwriter/keyboardist Paul Nordquist, a founding member of Bah & the Humbugs, is known for his quirky solo albums (most recently Around the World in a Fog, 1999), his albums with bands including Left Brain, Green Beings and Monster Crossing, and as the creator of Kids' Zong of the Week.

Paul V. Patanella is a software developer with ISIResearchSoft in Philadelphia. He has worked, in no particular order, as a librarian, early music ensemble director, web developer, operetta-composer-on-commission, and trading stamp redemption center clerk. When not engaged in his employment, he likes to read, play with cats, write software, and record fun music with his friends.

Gayden Wren is a New York-based playwright, director and songwriter. Along with hundreds of independent song lyrics, he is the author of 11 plays that have been produced — As If; Baseball, Sex and Other Facts of Life; Ernest; A Gilbert & Sullivan Christmas Carol; ID; Moonlight & Midnight; A Night on the Tomb; Swords & Frenchmen; Tales from the Bible; Two for the Show; and Very Truly Yours, Gilbert & Sullivan — and several others that have not been, usually for good reason. His other works include the comedy album Live From Secaucus: It's the Origin of Time Itself (1992) and A Most Ingenious Paradox: The Art of Gilbert & Sullivan, a critical work published by Oxford University Press in 2001.
