Ken Shapley

Ken Shapley is a didgeridoo virtuouso and master storyteller living in Edinburgh, Scotland, who has devoted himself to exploring how music, especially the didgeridoo, can bring healing into human lives. With fifteen years of experience, he brings his didgeridoo into schools, playing for the students, encouraging them to "paint their dreams." He has recently published his first novel, When We All Dream Together, which tells the story of a group of lucid dreaming researchers preparing to summon the last dreamtribe.

Remarkaby lush even when used as a solo instrument, Ken Shapley's didgeridoo will effortlessly transport listeners into the non-ordinary reality. With help from the occasional soft percussion and gentle use of a variety of instruments, plus sounds from nature (notably dolphins and whales), these richly-layered and evocative soundscapes will provide a joyous soundtrack to your shamanic journey work.

The sound of the ocean and dolphins brings you into and out of each of the two tracks on this 47-minute CD. Each track is approximately 23 minutes of hauntingly beautiful didgeridoo playing, with one track accompanied by guitar. These tracks were recorded after Ken's first trip out to swim with the dolphins of Little Bahama Bank. Traditionally the didgeridoo is used to call to the spirit of totem animals. This CD is Ken's "thank you" to the dolphins, and opens the door for others to experience their magic through shamanic journeying.

What the Turtle Heard

A 47-minute long didgeridoo lullabye, slow and harmonically rich. Ken recorded this track "after an amazing series of lucid dreams where Turtle came and literally swallowed me and shared its wisdom. Extraordinarily, after the dreams came the reality when wild dolphins guided me into a real life meeting with the turtle from those dreams!" This lullaby follows a simple rhythm of waves of expressive didgeridoo song, every seventh wave taking you a little deeper.

Whale Dreaming

An invocation on flute, didgeridoo, gongs and singing bowls to open up your dreams to the wisdom of Whale. 40 minutes long, this meditational piece takes you far out into the ocean where at last Whale's song can be heard, inspiring your own inner soul song.

The journey has three stages. You begin on the beach listening to the sounds of the ocean. A conch and flute are played , calling out to the Whales to find you. Then over the next 20 minutes a harmony of two didgeridoos, gongs and singing bowls take you on your quest to find the whales. The music gently fades away when the Whales arrive and serenade you with their pure beautiful song. Finally the didgeridoo and flute ferry you safely home to familiar shores.
